My favorite food Friday, Mar 27 2009

My first date with Ben was a trick.  He tricked me.  I had no clue it was a date.  He had been in the Army for four years.  I had no clue he had even left Shawnee, much less spent the past four years in Louisiana as a Medic.  I found him on My Space and I thought we were two friends catching up.  I was wrong.  I found out that night that my friend from high school had liked me since I was 14.  I never knew.

So anyway, that was the first time I had sushi. Loved it.  Ben proposed at that same restaurant.  We registered for all the tools to make our own sushi.  Last Friday we finally used them.  We went to Whole Foods and bought fish.  I recommend them. Much cheaper than Dean & Delucca.

I used the rice cooker to make the rice.  It was very easy that way.  It was a bit gooey, but I love gooey carby goodness.

This one has shrimp, tuna, avacado, and cucumber.  Regular maki roll.

This is the inside out roll (my fave) with salmon, tuna, wasabi (too much!) cucumber and avacado.

We bought too much fish and made too much rice!!  I think if we do this again without friends over to share we will buy one type of fish.  I was glad I did not buy all the fish I needed to make my favorite, the rainbow roll.

The perfect Saturday night! Tuesday, Mar 10 2009

I am old.  What you see before you is my Saturday night.  I was wicked excited about it.  Corbin was at his dad’s this weekend.  I had a girls night planned and Ben had a guys night.  My girls night got cancelled.  So I made better plans:-)

We went to Whole Foods and picked up remenants of different cheese.  We also bought sun dried tomatoes and caper berries.  I chopped them up and mized with goat cheese.  Yum!

I have a magazine ripping issue.  Once Corbin was reading a toy catalog that came into the mail.  He suddenly ripped a page in half.  I got upset and asked him why he did that.  He looked at me, shocked, and said “I readin like you Mommy”. So I amass these recipes that need to me added to my book.  While watching 8 episodes of Big Love I did just that.

Magazines to catch up.  This weeks time, this months Alumni magazine for K-State.  My book for book club….which is the 19th and I still have over half to go.  It is not doing it for me.

But of course I was not completely alone.  She like Big Love as well.  And the remote.  The remote is very chewable.

How I spent my Valentines Day Sunday, Feb 15 2009

We took Corbin to see Bob the Builder

Eleanor and I before we left.

Bob the Builder was at the Municipal Auditoriam.  Most shows lately have been at the Sprint Center.  Which is new and  in the P&L district.  I prefer Municipal.

Municipal was built in the 1930s.  It is very art deco.  Words like “Gatsby” or “slipped out of the Bentley into the Algonquin” come to mind.  My grandma was actually from Kansas City (not my posh suburb on the Kansas side that she moved to right before my mother, 6 of 7, as born) back in it’s heyday.  I like seeing buildings that existed in her childhood.  Ask Ben, I love anything “vintagey”.

After that we came home and had a heart shaped meal.

Fun had by all!

The paper anniversary Thursday, Feb 12 2009

Yesterday was Ben and I’s first anniversary.  We went to McCormick & Schmicks for dinner.  It was good, but I think I prefer M&S.   I did have some of the best oyters I have ever had!  I didn’t take the camera so there are no pictures until we got home that evening.

My present from Ben!

My present for Ben

We brought out the top of the cake from our wedding.  Ben and I did not have any room for it!  So we let the kids have at it!  This was Eleanor’s first taste of cake.

Weight Watchers Week #1 Monday, Feb 9 2009

I am completing my first week on the WW program.  If my many “cheat” weigh-ins are any indication.  The scale is not going to make me happy tomorrow morning.  Since tomorrow is my anniversary I going to be ticked if my scale starts my day off crappy.

I know I should stay off the scale during the week.  I just can’t.  Those who know me know that I have no patience.  None.  Nada.  Earlier in the week it was looking like a two pound loss.  Tonight is looking like almost a one pound gain.  I don’t get it.  Sort of at my wits end over here.

I have been dieting since August.  Over five months.  In that five months I have lost around 10 pounds.  That was all lost before mid-November.  So what has my body been doing since then?  I am thinking I need to up the work-outs.  Now I just need to find the time…

Who knows? Maybe the scale will make me happy in the morning.  *sigh*

Oh what a year! Sunday, Dec 28 2008

So 2008 began with a sleepover on the floor of our family room.  I fell asleep before Corbin.  On February 9th Ben and I got married at the church I spend the vast majority of my childhood in.  I wish my Grandma Corbin had been alive to see it.

Feburary was also the official change of A.G. Edwards to Wachovia Securities.  So my business cards and e-mail address changed 3 times!

On March 2 my baby, Corbin Dalton Glaser, turned three.

On March 9th, his 65th wedding anniversary, my Grandpa Kelley died.  Corbin did well understanding the death of his “pappy”.  Although he does not understand why we put his body in the ground if Jesus lives up in the sky.  But the music played my the American Legion men distracted him.

Also in March, Ben and I went on our honeymoon.  We went on a Caribbean cruise.  I was 26 weeks pregnant, but still had a good time.  I learned that there are waaay too many places to buy diamonds and tacky jewelry.  I also learned that the beach is fun, but not my thing.  It is a good thing I come from Kansas.

(Us at a bar in St. Thomas)

Our only other trip was a weekend in Iowa.  Long drive for a very pregnant woman.  Long weekend of nothing but football.  Ben likes to drive up there is visit a good friend of his from his Army days.

(Corbin with Cody and Tanner.  Their mom, Mandi, took this photo and some other neat ones of Corbin!)

In June 30,2008 brought Eleanor Jeanette Roberts.  This is the same day my grandma, Lois Jeanette Wilson Corbin, was born back in 1925.  Since me and Eleanor share her middle name, I found it fitting.

So I spent the summer home with my kids.  Corbin took a couple weeks of from Canterbury Academy to spend time with his new sister.  He also filled his summer with soccer camp, swim lesson, and dance camp.

The summer also brought on my desire to learn to cook.  Since then we have done extremely well in the banishment of processed foods from our home.  I have learned to make pretty much anything from scratch (as displayed here in my blog).

October brought a turbulant stock market, which is news to no one. It made for interesting times in my career.  Wachovia was caught in a tug of war with Citi (who did not want the securities division) and Wells Fargo.  Wells Fargo won out and in the next couple of months my company will have a new name.  It has not yet been decided what that name will be.  Do not fret, they have hired a consulting company to help with that decision. <insert eye roll here>  So our clients were  losing 50% of their portfolios and had no clue if our doors were going to stay open.  Not for the faint of heart 🙂

November brought the discovery that my Grandma Kelley (Corbin’s omie) has Stage 4 lymphoma.  She is going through Chemotherapy and we were unable to see her over Christmas due to our colds.

On December 9th Eleanor had her baby blessing.  My mom made her and amazing dress!  I was sad that we were unable to have her blessing at Countryside like we did with Corbin (the same church we were married in).  Mom now works at a very tiny church about an hour a way in St. Joseph, MO.

Next week Eleanor will turn 6 months old.  Ben will decide if he wants to remain at the University of Kansas to finish his undergraduate degree or go in another direction.  I have a feeling next year will be just as busy as this one…  God Bless and Happy New Year!

Weight loss woes Friday, Sep 19 2008

I weigh 190 lbs.  The day I have birth to Corbin I weighed 188.  Just sayin.  Ouch.  For well over a month I have been eating no more than 1300 calories a day.  I have been working out at least five days a week.  What gives?

I am just sooo frustrated and am not sure what to try next.  I cannot be this large forever.  Heck, I can’t afford to replace my wardrobe.  I wore maternity pants to work today.  Ugh.
